From March 1–9, 2025, Segovia will come alive with Carnival celebrations—a week of parades, music, costumes, and fun. Don’t miss this chance to join the party and create unforgettable memories.

Here’s everything you need to know:

What is Carnival?

Carnival is a lively festival celebrated worldwide before the start of Lent. In Segovia, it’s all about creativity, community, and joy. Think colorful costumes, street dances, delicious food, and traditions like the famous “Burial of the Sardine.” Whether you dress up or watch the action, everyone is welcome!

Highlights of Segovia’s Carnival 2025

Opening Parade & Party

  • Saturday, March 1 (8:00 PM)

Kick off Carnival with a dazzling parade from San Clemente Church to Plaza Mayor. Afterward, enjoy live music, a costume contest, and dancing with the orchestra Cherokee!

Proclamation & Family Fun

  • Sunday, March 2 (1:00 PM)

Gather in Plaza Mayor for the official Carnival speech, music, and the crowning of the Carnival Prince and Princess. At 2:30 PM, try the “macarronada” (pasta dish) for €2—all proceeds support ASPACE charity.

  • Monday, March 3

Kids take over! Join art contests, school parades, and a children’s costume parade from Azoguejo to Plaza Mayor. Finish with hot chocolate and a mobile disco!

Grand Carnival Parade

  • Tuesday, March 4 (7:30 PM)

The biggest event of the week! March with giant puppets, drummers, and dancers from San Clemente to Plaza Mayor. Stay for the DJ party and try the “potaje” stew (€2 donation to ANAR Foundation).

Burial of the Sardine

  • Friday, March 7 (8:00 PM)

A quirky tradition! Join the funeral procession for a giant sardine (symbolizing the end of fun). Watch it burn in Plaza Mayor, then dance to DJ music.

Final Day: Prizes & Photos

  • Sunday, March 9 (12:30 PM)

Pose for group photos in Plaza Mayor, watch award ceremonies, and enjoy a final DJ session.

Foodie Bonus: The Bacalao Tapas Route

From March 1–9, 12 local bars (7 in Segovia, 5 nearby) will serve special codfish (“bacalao”) tapas. Grab friends and taste this traditional dish!
